Citizen Gangster (2011) starring Scott Speedman, Kelly Reilly, and Kevin Durand
This crime drama based on true events profiles a WWII vet’s frustrations and eventual transformation into an eccentric bank robber in Toronto. Boyd initially steals out of necessity, but finds his new life also provides the stardom he always sought. - Netflix
This film was very well done. The acting was superb, incredibly executed, and the plot line was rather interesting. It did well to profile the struggle of a man coming home from war, searching for fame, and raising his family.
In all honesty though, I was far more interested in the persona he presented when he robbed banks… but then again, I find villains fascinating. Although, he isn’t necessarily a villain. His philosophies are strong minded and his intentions with good heart that is until his addiction towards this persona flushed out the important things in his life.
I think, for me, it’s just strange to see a human side to a villain, or, maybe he’s an anti-hero. I’m not sure. Nevertheless, this film was fantastic. It wasn’t necessarily amazing or a masterpiece but it was a really well done film.
To say the least, if you have the time to check this film out. I say do it because in the end, I’m giving this bad boy a 4 out of 5.
